Dental Implant Restoration Q & A

What is a dental implant restoration?

A dental implant restoration provides a sturdy, long-lasting alternative to traditional oral prosthetics.

Dental implants are small posts made of titanium that Dr. Russell places in your jaw during a quick, outpatient procedure. Following treatment, your bone integrates around the implants, fusing them with your jaw.

Dental implant restorations don’t rely on your remaining healthy teeth for support. Because they attach to your jaw, you don’t have to worry about them slipping or moving around.

What are the types of dental implant restoration?

Dr. Russell offers several types of dental implant restoration, including:

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that attach to your dental implants. They mimic the color and light-reflecting properties of your natural tooth enamel, ensuring your smile looks healthy and completely natural.

If you’re only missing one tooth, Dr. Russell manufactures your crown on-site using the CEREC® milling machine. If you’re missing multiple teeth, Dr. Russell sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that manufactures a complete set of crowns.

Fixed bridges

A fixed bridge is an implant restoration used to replace two missing teeth next to each other. Once a bridge connects to a dental implant, it restores your smile, as well as your chewing and biting abilities.

If Dr. Russell determines that you qualify for a bridge, he takes digital impressions with an intraoral scanner. He then sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that manufactures your fixed implant-supported bridge.

Implant-supported dentures

If you’re missing a full arch of teeth, consider implant-supported dentures. Dentures are a type of implant restoration used to replace some or all of your teeth. What’s more, if you currently wear dentures, Dr. Russell can retrofit them to attach to implants.

Implant-supported dentures fit snugly and remain in place. They allow you to speak with complete clarity, smile confidently, and eat your favorite foods.

What type of dental implant restoration will I most benefit from?

To determine the type of dental implant restoration that will most benefit you, Dr. Russell asks about your goals for treatment, performs an oral exam, and reviews your oral health history. After gathering the necessary information, he develops a custom treatment plan to align with your needs.
