Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a custom-made dental restoration that is placed over a tooth that is severely damaged or decayed. The crown restores the tooth's shape, size, strength, and appearance.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a prosthetic device that fits over a tooth, covering and protecting it from further damage. At Russell Family Dentistry, we use different materials to manufacture durable dental crowns that look as natural as possible.

Crowns can also correct a variety of cosmetic issues, including discolorations or chips in the teeth. They are custom-made for each patient to fit their smile perfectly. Once placed, crowns completely cover the affected teeth and make them look brand new.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a cap placed over a tooth that completely covers the visible portion above the gum line. The tooth underneath the crown is reshaped and strengthened, improving its function and beauty.

Dentists use dental crowns to restore teeth that have been weakened by decay or trauma. They can also be used to cover misshapen teeth and replace missing teeth when placed on top of dental implants.

Other benefits of dental crowns include:

  • Protection for weak or damaged teeth
  • Improving the appearance of stained or discolored teeth
  • Restoring broken or chipped teeth
  • Completing an implant restoration
  • Improving the strength and appearance of a tooth
  • Increased comfort when chewing
  • Prevention of tooth decay and cavities
  • Improvement in speaking and pronunciation
  • Preservation of remaining healthy tooth structure

Dental Crown Procedure

A dental crown is a restoration that is custom-made to cover the entire visible portion of the tooth. It encases the damaged, cracked, and chipped areas of the teeth and protects the tooth from further decay or damage. Crowns can be made from a wide variety of restorative materials that look just like natural enamel.

Our dentist will begin the procedure by removing a layer of enamel from your tooth's surface to make room for the crown. Then, we will take impressions of your tooth, which will be sent to a lab where technicians will fabricate your customized crown. You will wear a temporary crown until your final crown is ready. Once we receive your final crown, our dentist will test the fit and then permanently cement it into place.
